Job creators

Edith Neimark’s letter “Inconvenient truths” (Aug. 18) falls short of truths experienced by this and other readers.

Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Sergey Brin, Larry Page, Mark Zuckerberg, etc. did not inherit money. They have, however, created millions of jobs and created wealth.

Wealth may be grown through investment. However, wealth is only created through productivity and ingenuity of the “rich.”

My wife and I came to the United States 35 years ago with our five-year-old child and $270. We helped 38 relatives to settle in this country. I found an engineering job in two weeks. We never received financial support from the government. I am retired after working in this country for 30 years.

At one time I worked for the company created by the Bender family who escaped from Germany. They employed a few hundred people in New Jersey. I remember that a few times the owners did not have money to pay wages to employees and borrowed using their personal property as collateral. In 1989 that company moved from New Jersey to Tennessee.

I wish a few more people got rich, and risked their money in order to employ a few thousand “poor” people who do not have the means or ingenuity to create jobs for themselves.
