Joseph Cukier
Joseph Cukier, 94, of Fair Lawn died March 27, 2013 at Greenwood House, Ewing. Born in Poland, he was a Holocaust survivor who immigrated to the United States after the war. He resided in Fair Lawn from 1962 until shortly before his death.
After arriving in the United States, he worked as a painter until he was able to purchase real estate. Ultimately, he owned and managed real estate in Bergen, Passaic, and Essex counties until his retirement in 1980.
Predeceased by his wife, Henia Szaferman Cukier, he is survived by his stepson, Barry (Yvonne) Szaferman; his stepdaughter, Rose (Bruce) Paul; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his close friend, Esther Smith.
Services were held March 28 with arrangements by Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, Ewing. Memorial contributions may be made to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, 100 Raoul Wallenberg Place, Washington, DC 20024.
