Joseph Winkler
Joseph Winkler, 97, of Livingston, formerly of Hillside, died Dec. 29, 2019. Born a fraternal twin in Znatchevo, Czechoslovakia, he was a Holocaust survivor of Auschwitz, Erlenbusch, Flossenburg, and Theresienstadt who immigrated to the United States in 1948.
Mr. Winkler owned and operated a wholesale grocery warehouse with his wife Raymonde in Newark’s Farmer’s Market for over 40 years.
A member of Synagogue of the Suburban Torah Center, Livingston, since 1974, he was known as a daily congregant who was a reliable minyan and Torah study group attendee. In 2014 he was chosen as guest of honor in recognition of his years as a dedicated and devoted congregant.
He is survived by his wife; his son, Alan (Vicki); his daughter, Cindy (Matthew); and five grandchildren.
Services were held Dec. 31 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to Perelman Jewish Day School, ADL-The Hidden Child Foundation, or Suburban Torah Center.
