Karen Mandelbaum
Karen Grundfest Mandelbaum, 69, of New York City, formerly of Montclair, died July 10, 2019.
Mrs. Mandelbaum taught at various universities, including Hunter College, Montclair State University, William Paterson University, and New York University. In addition to being a pianist, she sang as a member of the New Jersey Oratorio Society and was a patron member of the Metropolitan Opera.
She graduated from Mannes School of Music and earned a Ph.D. in music theory from the City University of New York.
She was an active board member and chair of the education committee at the Montclair Art Museum.
Predeceased by her husband of more than 40 years, Larry, she is survived by two sons, Daniel and Andrew (Hind Kabaj); three sisters, Ellen, Andrea, and Judy; and a grandchild.
Services were held July 12 with arrangements by Jewish Memorial Chapel, Clifton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Karen Mandelbaum Fund for Education at the Montclair Art Museum.
