Looking for love in Israel
Sometimes you can get sociological insights from dating apps.
According to OKCupid, Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza has convinced many of the country’s singles to look for committed relationships. The dating app reports that 75% of the country’s singles are looking for partners.
Again according to OKCupid, responses from more than 1,000 users — not to a survey but to the compatibility questions the site asks — shows that the war has reduced respondents’ desire to travel abroad, and that 45% try to reduce stress by focusing on their own daily routines.
The data shows that singles want the emotional support and stability they believe — or hope — comes from long-term relationships. Just 19% of OKCupid’s respondents were uncertain about serious commitment, and another 6% said they were too stressed by the situation to find the energy for a real relationship.
