Marcia Forman

Marcia Forman (Wasserman), 92, of Springfield died Aug. 13, 2017.

Mrs. Forman received a B.S. in chemistry from Douglass College in 1945. She furthered her education at night school, attending Stevens Institute of Technology, from which she received a master’s degree in chemistry. 

She was involved in the Democratic Party, serving from 1990 to 1993 on the Springfield Township Committee and as mayor of Springfield from 1994 to 1995. At that time, she was instrumental in the development of the Freeman Apartments, a low-income housing complex for the disabled, and continued as an active member of its board after leaving elected office. She was an early proponent of environmental awareness and started the Springfield Environmental Commission. 

Predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Herbert, she is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Metz (Richard Dennin) of Hoboken; her son, Douglas (Caren Goldberg) of Michigan; and two grandchildren. 

Services were held Aug. 15 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to Environmental Defense Fund.
