“Lag B’Omer celebrates the lives and teachings of two of the greatest talmudic and kabbalistic sages in Jewish history, Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai and Rabbi Akiva,” Rabbi Mordechai Baumgarten, the Chabad Center’s program director, said. “Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai is the codifier of the Zohar, the principal text of the Kabbalah. Rabbi Akiva was the teacher of 24,000 students and a leader of the Jewish people. Both contemporary spiritual giants emphasized the Biblical precepts of ‘Love your fellow as yourself (Leviticus 19:18)’ and ‘How sweet it is when brothers dwell together as one (Psalms 133:1).” For information, go to www.onetorahway.org/LB2026, or call (973) 625-1525, ext. 202.
