Max Silverstein
Max “Mark” Nathan Silverstein, 87, of West Orange died Dec. 17, 2018. He was born in the Bronx.
Mr. Silverstein was a small business entrepreneur, owning and operating hair salons La Femme and Sherry’s Salon in West Orange, Verona, Upper Montclair, and East Hanover, continuing to style hair at age 87.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean War as a jet mechanic in North Africa.
His avid interest in flight led him to correspond with transportation navigators around the world. He also built a collection of hundreds of model airplanes that decorated several rooms in his house. A camera collector, he also took thousands of photos of aircraft of all kinds at airports and bases; his airplane photos were published in Europe and around the world.
He also played racquetball and handball and was involved with Cabana Club and the local YMCA.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sherry; his children, Randy, Eric, and Keith; and eight grandchildren.
Services were held Dec. 20 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
