Mitzvah Day

Mitzvah Day

THE FIRST COMMUNITY Mitzvah Day, sponsored by Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ, will take place on Sunday, April 7.

The day of hands-on service opportunities for volunteers of all ages — coordinated with and in support of Greater MetroWest community partners — will include assembling and delivering Passover food packages for home-bound seniors, weaving upcycled plastic bags into blankets for the homeless, creating a mural at the Greater Newark Conservancy, and making calls to benefit the UJA Annual Campaign.

This event also incorporates J-SERVE, which will have hundreds of teens from across the community participating in the International Day of Jewish Youth Service. Young people ages 12 to 18 will gather at the Alex Aidekman Family Jewish Community Campus in Whippany from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to choose from among 12 service projects. The day will also include a service fair and teen speakers.

The project is chaired by Michael Elchoness and Joanie Schwarz; vice-chairs are Shari Broder, David Feuerstein, Caroline Goldstein, Carrie Jaffe, Robyn Laveman, Lisa Olender, and Elana Wilf Tanzman. Corporate sponsors include Imperial Dade and Planned Companies. To register,
