Murray Luftglass

Murray Arnold Luftglass, 88, of Pompton Plains died April 29, 2019. He was born in Brooklyn. Until recently, he was a resident of Montclair, and previously had lived in Hoboken; Bedford, N.Y.; and in California and Connecticut.

Mr. Luftglass was a chemical engineer focused principally on new plastics technologies before becoming a specialist in corporate mergers, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships. He spent most of his career at Shell Oil Company and Ametek. He held numerous patents. He started two companies after retiring from Ametek: M&A London and Helios Products, a solar energy company that is now managed by his son Bryan.

A graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School, he earned his bachelor’s degree at Illinois Institute of Technology, an M.S. in chemical engineering from University of Southern California, and an M.B.A. from University of Connecticut.

He was an officer in the U.S. Navy, where he served on the USS New Jersey.

He is survived by his daughter, Paula Graber of New York; four sons, Bryan of Utah, Robert (Maribeth) of Virginia, Rick (Kathleen Condon) of New York, and Andrew (Amanda Spinner) of Ohio; a brother, Manny of New Jersey and Florida; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were held May 1 with arrangements by J.L. Apter Memorial Chapel, Cedar Grove. Memorial contributions may be made to the Perlmutter Cancer Center at NYU Langone Medical Center or American Cancer Society.
