Museum education needed
I — and the entire Jewish community, I am sure — was shocked to read about the swastika drawn in South Orange Middle School (“Swastika drawn in South Orange school bathroom,” Dec. 8). The incident is even more shocking since this is the second time this has occurred.
I would like to offer a suggestion. I think South Orange Middle School students (and all middle school and high school students) should be urged to take a compulsory field trip to the Museum of Jewish Heritage: A Living Memorial to the Holocaust in New York City. Perhaps if non-Jewish students learn about Jews and their history such incidents will no longer occur. It would be a beneficial learning experience for all.
I would like to urge all parents (and grandparents) with middle school and high school students to contact principals with the suggestion that they plan such a visit.
