Norman Shayer

Norman Shayer, 81, of Pembroke Pines, Fla., died Dec. 5, 2011. Born in Philadelphia, he resided in East Hanover before moving to Florida in 2002.

Mr. Shayer was a chemistry teacher for the Livingston Board of Education for 27 years, retiring in 1994. He was the recent recipient of the citation for Outstanding Educator.

He graduated from Delaware Valley College in 1952.

He was an Air Force veteran who served during the Korean Conflict.

He was a former ice hockey coach at Livingston High School and a member of the National and the New Jersey education associations and the National Science Teachers Association. He volunteered at Morris Museum and at St. Hubert’s and Mt. Pleasant animal shelters.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Gail Wohl Shayer; his son, Brett Fielo; his daughter, Alison Worth; two sisters, Dina Pavel and Marcye Shayer; and three granddaughters.

Services were held Dec. 8 with arrangements by Branchburg Funeral Home, Branchburg. Memorial contributions may be made to Delaware Valley College, Doylestown, Pa., attn: Jennifer Rock; or Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter, East Hanover.
