Obstacles to peace
It’s absolutely clear, that, regardless of many attempts to reach a final two-states agreement, it will not come about (“Failed negotiations are nothing to celebrate,” June 12). The reason: until the wide Arab world recognizes Israel’s legitimacy and stops anti-Israeli propaganda, no one Palestinian leader will ever sign any final agreement. That’s why Yasser Arafat refused to sign it, even though
it was the best deal ever. Also, after Anwar Sadat signed the Camp David peace agreement, he was gunned down, even though it was the best deal for Egypt.
In order to solve this problem, all efforts have to be made to work with the Arab states and show them that Israel is not their enemy and peace with the Jewish State may highly benefit them.
