Paula Monastersky

Paula Monastersky, 63, of Monroe Township died June 14, 2014. She was born in Newark. 

She graduated from John F. Kennedy High School and received a certificate in early childhood education from Temple University.

Long an advocate for women’s rights, Ms. Monastersky, along with a small group of women, forced the closing of a state-run facility due to its lack of procedural administration practices, and became a founding member of the Elizabeth Blackwell Center for Women in Philadelphia. She also worked at Planned Parenthood in Philadelphia and participated in other socially conscious events throughout her life.

She is survived by two daughters, Allison Cohen (Lisa Smith) of Lake Worth, Fla., and Lora Spear of Los Angeles; and a brother, Richard Monastersky of Short Hills.

Services were held June 15 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston.
