Pauline Mindlin

Pauline Wanda Mindlin, 88, of Portland, Ore., died Sept. 13, 2015. She was born in Miedzryzec, Poland, and as a teenager fought in the resistance. Her parents and most of her relatives died in the Holocaust. After the war, she moved to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and in 1963 to Livingston, where she raised three children. She moved to Portland three years ago. 

Mrs. Mindlin worked as a psychiatric nurse practitioner, first at the VA Hospital in East Orange and later at Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital, from which she retired in 2003. She was an early authority on Post-Tramautic Stress Disorder. 

She earned two master’s degrees. 

She marched for civil rights and against the Vietnam War.

She is survived by her son, Philip (Iliana); two daughters, Louisa and Jessica (Alex Schafir); seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. 

Services were held Sept. 16 at Riverview Cemetery, Portland. Memorial contributions may be made to USC Shoah Foundation.
