Phyllis Ettinger
Phyllis Ettinger, 87, of South Orange died Sept. 29, 2013. Born in New York City, she was raised in Elizabeth and resided in South Orange for over 30 years.
A social worker, Ms. Ettinger retired as superintendent of adoption for Children’s Aid and Adoption Society.
She received her BA from New York University and her MA from New School for Social Research.
She was a volunteer tutor in the South Orange-Maplewood school system, a life member of Hadassah and Ruth Estrin Goldberg Memorial, and a member of Oheb Shalom Congregation and its Miriam Sisterhood in South Orange.
She is survived by her sister, Jacqueline Nover of South Orange; two nephews, David and Neal Nover; a niece, Susan Engelstein; and seven great-nephews and -nieces.
Services were held Sept. 30 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to REGM, PO Box 194, Springfield, NJ 07081; or Oheb Shalom.
