Rebecca S. Levine
Rebecca Levine (Shiffman), 87, of Amherst, Mass., died Nov. 1, 2019. She grew up in Brooklyn, lived briefly in Morristown, and lived in White Meadow Lake, Rockaway, for 59 years before moving to Amherst one
year ago.
With a love of Yiddish and Jewish culture, Mrs. Levine was a Yiddish teacher and folk dancer.
She was a lifelong member of Hadassah, where she served in leadership roles. She chaired the Russian Resettlement committee of what was known as the Morris-Sussex United Jewish Federation (a predecessor to Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ), and served on the board of directors of Jewish Family Service.
Predeceased by her husband, Larry, she is survived by two daughters, Karen (Tom Gardner) of Amherst and Cindy of Rockaway; her son, Jeffrey (Martha Eisenberg) of Philadelphia; three grandchildren; and a step-granddaughter and -great-grandson.
Services were held Nov. 5 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to the Yiddish Book Center or National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene.
