Richard Greene
Dr. Richard W. “Dick” Greene, 98, of Long Branch died March 2, 2015. Born in Newark, he was a New Jersey resident his entire life.
Dr. Greene began his practice in Newark, and then practiced in Irvington before making Millburn his final location in a partnership, practicing privately for nearly 60 years and retiring at the age of 90.
He began his education at Newark Academy. He received his BA from Yale University and his MD from Harvard Medical School. He completed his internship at Newark City Hospital and his ophthalmic residency at New York University, Bellevue Medical Center, where he later taught ophthalmic residents. He went on to complete an ophthalmic fellowship at Northwestern Medical School, and completed additional post-graduate work at Harvard Medical School and University of Pittsburgh Medical School.
He served as a captain in the Army Medical Corps during World War II.
He became the oldest student to attend Monmouth University, West Long Branch, where he audited several history courses.
Predeceased by a son, Thomas, he is survived by his wife, Carol, and a son, Richard W. of Atlanta.
Arrangements were handled by Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean.
