Sanford De Leon
Sanford (“Sandy”) David De Leon, 78, of Elizabeth died Feb. 10, 2019.
A career retail pharmacist, Mr. De Leon developed an expertise on drugs for infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS and hepatitis, and volunteered to help people with HIV/AIDS receive the medications and support they needed.
He was a graduate of Newark’s Weequahic High School and Rutgers University.
Among his interests were ballroom dancing, weightlifting, tending orchids, and attending medical conferences.
He is survived by his life partner of 14 years, Phyllis Pollio; his son, Robert (Susan Mattisinko); his daughter, Nancy (Dennis) Link; two sisters, Arlene Chinsky and Judi Postorino; and four granddaughters.
A celebration of life gathering was held on Feb. 15. Memorial contributions may be made to AIDS United.
