Seymour Katz
Seymour Katz, 88, of South Orange died Jan. 2, 2011. Born in Newark, he lived in Maplewood and South Orange for the past 56 years.
Mr. Katz was a certified public accountant for over 50 years, specializing in maritime accounting. He was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accounting.
He was a magna cum laude graduate of Rutgers School of Business and a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran who served in the 981st Field Artillery Battalion. He took part in the Normandy Invasion, having landed on Utah Beach, and also fought in northern France, Ardennes, the Rhineland, and Central Europe.
He was a member of Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel of South Orange and a former member of the Maplewood Country Club.
He is survived by his wife, Fleurette (Berg); two sons, Bruce Katz of San Francisco and Glenn Dinetz of Morris Plains; and a grandson.
Services were held Jan. 5 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s disease research.
