Shoah education
We greatly appreciate Johanna Ginsberg’s fine article about our outreach to Jewish camps, “New initiative brings Shoah survivors to speak to campers” (July 26). However, one important aspect was left out. This newest initiative was a collaboration between the Holocaust Council of Greater Metro-West and One Happy Camper NJ and its director Tracy Levine.
I’d been thinking of bringing our program to summer camps for years. Only when Levine and I realized we both considered this a worthwhile addition to camp calendar, did it come to fruition. The response of camps was immediate. We had hoped to begin with just one day camp and one sleepaway camp but we were able to accommodate three camps this summer and hope to expand the program next year. This is turning out to be an all-around win for the campers, survivors, and volunteer program moderators.
We’re very glad to be able to facilitate this memorable learning experience and grateful to Jamie Carus for doing the administrative work that makes it possible.
Director, Holocaust Council of Greater MetroWest
