Valued leadership
The Community Relations Committee of MetroWest thanks Sen. Robert Menendez for his initiative, foresight, and leadership in proposing the U.S. Senate Resolution calling for freezing arms sales to Libya, suspending Libya from the UN Human Rights Council, and condemning the systematic human rights violations in Libya. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton successfully worked to suspend Libya from the 47-nation body in Geneva shortly thereafter. These efforts were initiated by the United States as the Council was planning to adopt a resolution to praise Libya for its human rights record.
Sen. Menendez continues to win our praise for proactively addressing this evolving crisis and promoting immediate action on issues of importance to the Jewish community, be it Israel, the genocide in Darfur, ending Iran’s nuclear proliferation, and now Libya.
