Young Shoah diarist

I was abroad when Gabe Kahn’s “Eva.stories: Believe the hype, ignore the indignation” (May 23) was published. The Holocaust Council of Greater MetroWest NJ — of which I was director for 18 years — worked with Asociatia Tikvah, the Holocaust center in Oradea, Romania, that produced a short documentary about Eva Heyman. They also created a traveling exhibit about her and installed a lovely monument to her in the center of the city.

The film is a poignant documentary about a young and very beautiful teenager who was murdered in Auschwitz when Germany had all but lost the war. Its subject and length make it an ideal film for use in the classroom.

It is important that people recognize that Anne Frank was not the only young diarist with talents and aspirations whose life was snuffed out by a predatory, racist regime. We were very proud to show the film as part of our International Film Festival in the spring of 2018.
