$152,246 in grants awarded to nonprofits

THE JEWISH WOMEN’S Foundation of New Jersey (JWFNJ) has awarded $152,246 in competitive grants to six local nonprofit organizations.

Since 2007, JWFNJ has awarded over $775,000 in funding approximately 60 organizations in New Jersey and Israel.

“As we begin our 11th year, the women of JWFNJ continue their efforts to make a sustainable difference in the lives of women and girls by funding innovative programs,” said foundation cochair Penina Barr.

The 2018-19 grants awarded are:

Women’s Health: Community FoodBank of New Jersey, Hillside — $30,000 for diaper and feminine hygiene distribution

Empowering Women: Microlending: Grameen America, Newark — $30,000 for empowering women entrepreneurs

Leadership Development &
Equity
: Jazz House Kids Inc., Montclair — $30,000 for CHiCA Power, a program for young women in jazz

Legal Immigration/Citizenship: OASIS-A Haven for Women, Paterson — $20,246 for Oasis Citizenship and Cultural Integration Project

Gender-Based Violence: Partners for Women and Justice, Montclair — $12,000 for pre-trial safety project. Sanar Wellness Institute, Newark — $30,000 for Trauma-Informed Aftercare Toolkit

Through the Jewish Women’s Funding Network, JWFNJ is also participating in a collaborative funding effort in Israel focused on advancing direct employment and improving labor rights and conditions for women in caretaking and service professions.

JWFNJ is a donor-advised fund of the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater MetroWest NJ.
