Caldwell synagogue to honor its retiring cantor
Congregation Agudath Israel in Caldwell will honor Cantor Joel Caplan on his retirement with a weekend of tributes. Cantor Caplan, who has been a chazan since 1982, teaches in the shul’s religious school; has been the officiant for thousands of bar/bat mitzvah services, weddings, and funerals, and is a founding director and member of many community adult and children’s choral groups. Working alongside Rabbi Emeritus Alan Silverstein, Rabbi Ari Lucas, and educational director Susan Werk, he has helped to grow and strengthen the Conservative congregation and its 850 family member units.
The shul will pay tribute to Cantor Caplan and his wife, Nancy, at Shabbat services and a kiddush luncheon on Saturday, June 13. “A Caplan Revue” with refreshments will be held Sunday, June 14, beginning at 10 a.m. A tribute journal will be created in his honor.
