A modest proposal
After watching the recent exchange between Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas) and Sen. Diane Feinstein (Calif.) debating the issue of high-powered assault rifles and whether there is a need for the American public to possess these weapons, I have the following suggestion:
Since the founders of our nation, who conceived the Second Amendment and the public’s need to bear arms, had absolutely no concept of assault-type weapons and magazine clips that hold multiple rounds, why not have the United States Congress simply add a provision to the Second Amendment stating that its protection applies only to the types of weapons available to the American public in 1776? After all, when the amendment was authored, it was done so with those types of weapons in mind for the American public touse to defend themselves.
