Albert Goldstein

Albert Goldstein, 85, of Tinton Falls died Feb. 1, 2014. He was born in New York and raised in Plainfield and lived in Tinton Falls for the past 58 years.

Dr. Goldstein had been a consulting chemist for the past 43 years and continued to be active in his field until his death. He worked for five small chemical firms prior to establishing his own consulting practice, Venture Chemical, in 1971. He held 18 U.S. patents and numerous foreign patents and authored a number of scientific articles and technical papers. He was the technical part of a four-man team that succeeded in developing the first powder-free surgical glove, which is marketed as Biogel and used worldwide.

He graduated from Rutgers University with a BS and Cornell University with a PhD in organic chemistry.

He was a member of the Monmouth County Photography Club, the Guild of Creative Art, exhibited at the Monmouth Festival of the Arts, and had donated many photographs to brighten areas of Riverview Medical Center and Jersey Shore Medical Center.

An Eagle Scout, he served as scoutmaster of Troop 120 (New Shrewsbury) and was proud that his sons and a grandson also attained the same status. He was a founding member and chairman of the first building committee of Monmouth Reform Temple, Tinton Falls, where he also was a two-term president, remaining active during its 42 years of association with the Monmouth Festival of the Arts.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara Straus Goldstein; two sons, Daniel of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Robert (Julie) of Califon; two daughters, Audrey Goldstein of Tucson, Ariz., and Janet Goldstein (James) Walling of Aberdeen; a sister, Doris Goldstein Ostroff of Green Brook; and five grandchildren.

Services were held Feb. 2 with arrangements by Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean. Memorial contributions may be made to the Food Bank of Monmouth & Ocean Counties.
