Arthur Weis

Arthur M. Weis, 87, of Montclair died Jan. 20, 2013.

Mr. Weis was the founder of Capintec Inc., a leading global supplier of nuclear medical equipment and systems.

He entered the U.S. Naval Academy in the last year of World War II and graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He attended Rutgers Law School and became a patent attorney, later inventing his own nuclear thermionic fuel cell, which was used as a power supply for spacecraft launched in the 1960s.

He received lifetime awards from the Society of Nuclear Medicine.

He was active in the Passaic Jewish community and served as president of Beth Shalom Reform Temple and later, Temple Emanuel, where he would chant from the Book of Jonah every Yom Kippur for 18 years.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice; his son, Eric (Fern); a sister, Marcia; and two grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 22 with arrangements by Jewish Memorial Chapel, Clifton.
