Christie’s future
The George Washington Bridge scandal certainly does not help Gov. Christie’s image if he wishes to make a run for president in 2016. With his popularity in blue state New Jersey, I don’t believe he was foolish enough to orchestrate the plan to close down the lanes of the bridge. I do, however, feel he should have had more control over his staff and made the firings right after it happened. He hoped it would go away just like the president and State Department hoped Benghazi would go away.
In the long run, I don’t believe Christie will be the GOP candidate, but not because of Bridgegate, which, just like Benghazi, will be old news in a couple of years. If the Republicans have any hopes of recapturing the White House, they will have to nominate a strong conservative candidate, which the governor is not. If he really wants to seek the presidency, he’ll have to cross that bridge when he comes to it.
