The Zamir Choral Foundation performs “Jewish Strong: Raising Voices for Israel,” a concert to benefit HaZamir Israel and its teen singers in this time of war and ongoing need. It’s on Sunday, December 15, at 7:30 p.m., at Merkin Hall at the Kaufman Music Center on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.

The Zamir Chorale, the premier Hebrew-singing choir in North America, and Zamir Noded, the inspiring Jewish choir for young professionals, are conducted by Matthew Lazar.

“Choral music can express a range of emotions and have a healing effect across all cultures,” Mr. Lazar, the Choral Foundation’s founder and director, said. “This concert is a vehicle to inspire hope and a sense of community among people in the U.S. and Israel.”

The program includes a featured performance of Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms in the composer’s version for keyboard, harp, and percussion, as well as shorter works by American and Israeli composers.

The concert benefits HaZamir Israel, a part of HaZamir: The International Jewish Teen Choir, which has 27 chapters in the United States and nine in Israel. HaZamir was created as a platform where talented teens can sing great Jewish music at the highest standard of excellence.

“HaZamir is an empowering lifeline for our Israeli singers, providing stability, resilience, and friendship to them in this time of crisis, displacement and war,” Vivian Lazar, HaZamir’s director, said. “We want them to know that we support them, and we are with them. We are Jewish strong.”

Tickets are available from the Merkin Concert Hall Box Office at (212) 501-3330 or at www.kaufmanmusiccenter.org/mch/event/jewish-strong-raising-voices-for-israel.
