Edith Fishman

Edith Fishman (Kohn), 88, of New York City died March 8, 2015. Born in Czechoslovakia, she lived in Italy, Spain, and Portugal before arriving in the United States in 1941. She was raised in New York City’s Washington Heights and later resided in Newark. 

She attended George Washington High School and Drake Secretarial School. 

With an interest in Jewish history and the evolution of Yiddish humor, she gave lectures dealing with the many facets of Yiddish storytelling.

A life member of Hadassah, she was formerly vice president for education of Hadassah’s Maplewood chapter and the editor of its monthly bulletin. She lectured extensively on the subject of Jewish history and was chosen as the chapter’s 1988-89 Woman of the Year. She was a former member of Congregation Beth El in South Orange.

Predeceased by her husband, Aaron, she is survived by her daughter, Susan Fishman (Bobby Santa Maria) of Wharton; her son, Ronald Reisman (Jill Simon) of New York City; and three grandchildren.

Services were held March 11 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
