Fred Kant

Fred H. Kant, 88, of Cranford died April 16, 2018. 

Mr. Kant began his career at Esso Research and Engineering (now Exxon/Mobil) as a chemical engineer and remained an executive with Exxon/Mobil for 30 years. He spent 18 years as the associate director of technology transfer at Columbia University, where he patented and marketed the inventions generated by both graduate students and faculty. 

He received his doctorate from Columbia School of Engineering. 

After his retirement, he tutored individuals in Cranford as part of the ESL program, working with students from countries such as China and Turkey.

He and his wife were active members of Temple Beth-El Mekor Chayim, Cranford, for 59 years. He held positions on both the synagogue’s board of trustees and board of education. 

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Clarisse; two daughters, Karyn (Jack) Masterson of Old Bridge and Eva Margot Kant (Thomas Logan) of New York City; two granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren. 

Services were held April 18 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
