Herbert A. Moses

Herbert A. Moses, 81, of Ewing died May 24, 2011. He was born in Hartford, Conn.

Dr. Moses taught both graduate and undergraduate students during his 32 years at The College of New Jersey and then served as professor emeritus of physics. He was a theoretical and research physicist and wrote many of his papers in the fields of magnetic resonance imaging and elementary particles.

Also known for his artwork, he was most recognized for his style of colorful three-dimensional geometric paintings, a blending of science and art. He held 19 one-man shows and was a frequent exhibitor in New York’s Soho galleries. His paintings are owned by more than 70 private collectors around the world, some included in the permanent collections of the New Jersey State Museum. His Moses Descending Mt. Sinai is part of the Jewish Federation of Princeton Mercer Bucks’ collection.

He received his BS and MS degrees in physics from Michigan State University and his PhD from the University of Connecticut.

He was a member of Adath Israel Congregation in Lawrenceville.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sally; his son, Michael of Atlanta; two daughters, Carolyn Johnston of Livingston and Lara Weisberg of East Brunswick; a brother, Robert of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Selma Bonham of Mill Creek, Wash.; and six grandchildren.

Services were held May 26 with arrangements by Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, Ewing.
