Herbert Stolzer
Herbert Gordon Stolzer, 87, of East Brunswick died Jan. 25, 2013. Born in New York City, he resided there before moving to Highland Park and then East Brunswick 55 years ago.
Mr. Stolzer retired from Johnson and Johnson in 1991 after a 39-year career. He served as a member of its executive committee and board of directors from 1973 to 1987. From 1988 until his retirement, he was assistant to the chairman of the board of J&J, working in the Development Corporation, the Corporate Office of Science and Technology, and the Quality Improvement Process.
He received his BS in electrical engineering from New York University and a master’s degree in industrial management from Columbia University.
He served on the board of trustees for Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Foundation, the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey from 1985 to 1993, Middlesex County Community College in Edison, University Health System New Jersey, and the New Brunswick Cultural Center, where he also served as chairman of the board from 1993 to 1996. He was a life member of the board of directors of the Jewish Federation of Greater Middlesex County.
He was a recipient of the Scopus Award from the American Friends of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and “Partners in Caring” award from the American Cancer Society, NJ Division, for his fund-raising efforts. In 1998, he founded the Yvette J. and Herbert G. Stolzer Foundation, whose mission is to support institutions and organizations with a focus on health care, education, and the arts.
Predeceased by his first wife, Yvette Jacoby Stolzer, in 1997, he is survived by his wife, Toby Lublin Stolzer; two daughters, Ronnie (Greg) Forrest of Newport Beach, Calif., and Leslie (Edward Jr.) Logel of Manalapan; his son, Ira (Kay) of Kansas City, Kansas; eight grandsons; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 27 with arrangements by Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick.
