Holocaust survivor to speak in Scotch Plains
Temple Sholom in Scotch Plains will mark Kristallnacht on November 9, at 7 p.m. Eva Wiener, a Holocaust survivor, will tell the story of her family’s escape from Germany; the talk will be both in person and on Zoom.
On Kristallnacht, the Night of Broken Glass, November 9-10, 1938, Eva’s father was arrested and sent from Berlin to Poland. The men held there were offered release in exchange for the surrender of their property to the state. Eva’s mother booked passage for their family on the Havana-bound MS St. Louis when Eva was 10 months old. The ship was not allowed to land in Cuba, the U.S., or Canada. Eventually the family of three went to England, which was among four countries that agreed to take some refugees.
This program will be offered both in person and on Zoom. Registration is required. Call (908) 889-4900 to register or for the Zoom link. It is funded by the Rabbi Sidney Nathanson Fund and the Ruth Rutenberg Fund for Lifelong Learning.
