Howard Farmer
Dr. Howard Stephen (Steve) Farmer, 82, of Princeton died Nov. 5, 2017. Born in Brooklyn, he spent much of his youth in Hillside and moved to Princeton in 1966.
Dr. Farmer managed an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) practice and served as an attending surgeon at Princeton Medical Center throughout his career.
He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1956 and earned a medical degree from Washington University. He completed an ENT fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.
He played trombone at Hillside High School and beyond, most recently with the Witherspoon Traveling Medicine Show, a local Dixieland band. He also played the trumpet, French horn, guitar, and viola.
As a nationally ranked squash player, he helped carry the United States squash team to a silver medal during the 1985 Maccabiah Games.
Predeceased in 2016 by his wife of 55 years, Maxine (Ziss), he is survived by three sons, George, Jacob, and Sam; daughters-in-law Nancy, Jenna, and Lisa; a sister, Judy Miller; and five grandchildren.
Services were held Nov. 10 and 12 with arrangements by Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, Ewing. Memorial contributions may be made to The Jewish Center of Princeton or Jewish Family and Children’s Service of Greater Mercer County.
