Howard Rood

Howard Rood, 88, of Scotch Plains died Aug. 11, 2017. Born in Newark, he was raised in Irvington and Hillside. He also had a vacation home in Lenox, Mass.

Mr. Rood was managing director of James Wholesale Drug Company before becoming owner/manager of Rood Distributing. 

He graduated from Irvington High School and from Rutgers College with a degree in business administration.

He served in the U.S. Army at Fort Bragg during the Korean War. 

He was a longtime member of Jewish Federation, Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains, and B’nai B’rith. 

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara (Rubin); two daughters, Vicki (Richard) Parker and Jodie Garfinkel (Jim Fleming); his son, Gregg (Stacey) Rood; a brother, Gerald Rood; a sister, Nina Holover; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Alzheimer’s Association or the Howard Rood Memorial Fund at JCC of Central NJ, Scotch Plains.
