Irrational hater
I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a vicious calumny against Israel published in a Jewish paper as the letter written by Amy Goldblatt, “Israel’s criminality” (May 24).
She went right down the list of anti-Jewish tropes that would please the hearts of Heinrich Himmler, Edward Said, and Richard Spencer. According to her, Israel commits “massacres” (check), Israel is a criminal “regime” (check), Israel is “apartheid” (check), Israel equals “Nazis” (check), and Jewish “money” (check), Jewish “control of media” (check), Jewish “influence/control” of governments (check), and misappropriation of the Holocaust. The only thing missing is that we use Christian blood to make our matzahs.
Perhaps Goldblatt is unaware that Hamas is a vicious, Jew-hating terror organization that wants to destroy Israel, or perhaps she just doesn’t care. Perhaps, like most people, she didn’t bother to look beyond the headlines and learn that far from being innocent victims, the overwhelming majority of the people killed were Hamas members. Or that the true purpose of their mission, beyond the propaganda value, was to breach the security barrier, invade the nearest Israeli towns, and commit acts of murder and mayhem as admitted by Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.
But whether Goldblatt wrote out of ignorance, or out of the anti-Israel hatred that predominates among the far-left and the far-right, ultimately matters not. The Jewish people and the Jewish state must stand strong and united in the face of such attacks.
It is ironic that Goldblatt’s letter was posted in reply to an article titled “A conversation starter,” since her bile-filled rant is a conversation stopper.
There’s simply no point in trying to have a rational conversation with an irrational hater.
