More than 800 attorneys and judges are expected participate in the 18th annual Jewish Law Symposium, a project of the Rabbinical College of America, set for September 26 at the Birchwood Manor in Whippany. The symposium has become a premier educational event in the New Jersey legal community.

There will be a panel discussion, “The Ethics of War and Peace,” with a virtual online viewing option. Alyza Lewin Esq., a prominent Washington attorney and the president of the Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law, will highlight the program.

Rabbi Shalom Lubin, founder of the Jewish Law Symposium and Chabad of SE Morris County, will moderate a panel discussion with Dov Ben-Shimon, executive director of the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest; Russel G. Pearce, a Fordham University School of Law professor of legal ethics, morality, and religion; and Rabbi Shlomo Yaffe, an internationally acclaimed scholar, author, and lecturer.

“For the past two and a half years, our eyes and focus have been glued to war in Ukraine, and of course, this past year, the war in Israel,” Rabbi Lubin said. “Navigating the complex topics of war and peace from an ethical and legal perspective, through the lens of both civil law, talmudic law, and 2,000 years of Jewish ethics and wisdom, is our goal for this program, which should be most intriguing and relevant.”

Cary B. Cheifetz of Javerbaum Wurgaft Hicks Kahn Wikstrom & Sinins, P.C., is the event chair. “The laws and ethics of the Talmud have served as a cornerstone of humanity’s civil and moral infrastructure, while shaping its legal judicial systems,” he said. “I find this program to be intellectually stimulating and fascinating; I love attending every year!

“If you come to the Jewish Law Symposium, you will walk away with a body of knowledge you will never forget.”
