Journal: Rabbi Faith Joy Dantowitz

RABBI FAITH JOY Dantowitz of Temple B’nai Abraham (TBA), Livingston, will receive her Doctor of Divinity, honoris causa, from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in honor of her completion of 25 years in the rabbinate.

The HUC-JIR/NY graduation ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 3, at 4 p.m. at Congregation Emanu-El, Manhattan. Her achievement will also be recognized at Shabbat services at TBA on Friday, May 4, at 6:30 p.m.

Dantowitz joined the TBA clergy in 2010. She received her B.A.S. from the University of Pennsylvania’s Moore School of Electrical Engineering and Applied Science. After ordination at HUC-JIR in 1993, she served as a rabbi at Congregation B’nai Jeshurun in Short Hills for 11 years. Following that, she was the regional director of admissions and recruitment at HUC-JIR for six years. She spent nine summers (2003-2011) on faculty at URJ Camp Harlam in the Poconos. Dantowitz was in the 4th Rabbinic Cohort of the Institute for Jewish Spirituality. A member of the Women’s Rabbinic Network and CCAR, she is involved with Faith in New Jersey and the Do Not Stand Idly By Campaign against Gun Violence. She was selected as an American Jewish World Service (AJWS) Global Justice Rabbinic Fellow (2014-15) and traveled to Guatemala in 2015. She is currently a JOIN (Jewish Organizing Institute and Network) for Justice Rabbinic Fellow.
