Kenneth Dollinger
Kenneth “Buddy” Dollinger, 87, of Boca Raton, Fla., died Feb. 6, 2013. Born in Newark, he was a 40-year resident of Livingston.
Dr. Dollinger was a prominent obstetrician-gynecologist on the medical staffs of St. Barnabas Medical Center, where he was a former chief of staff of the OB-GYN department, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, and Orange Memorial Hospital. He was a former director of obstetrics and gynecology at Planned Parenthood, Palm Beach County, Fla. He was a medical volunteer at the Caridad Center, Boynton Beach, Fla.; a mentor at the American Medical Association for pre-med Essex County high school students; and founder of Future Physicians Clubs at Livingston High School and in Newark schools.
The mayor of Livingston in 1970, he was a member of the Livingston Township Council in the 1960s and 1970s and was the first Democrat elected in Livingston’s 150-year history. He was also a former chair of United Jewish Appeal of Essex County.
A World War II veteran, he served in the Army infantry in France, Germany, and Austria and was awarded a Bronze Star for bravery.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joan (Davis); his daughter, Reesa Greenwald of Roseland; his son, Jeffrey D. of Whippany; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services were held Feb. 10 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to the Foundation for Diabetes Research, Livingston.
