Landmark store
I enjoyed “Curacao imbued with colorful Jewish heritage” (Oct. 2) but I cannot understand the omission of Spritzer & Fuhrmann, the store that was considered the Cartier of the Caribbean.
Started by two immigrants who fled Nazi persecution in the early ’30s, it was renowned for its fine jewelry, among many other things, and was a port of call for visiting cruise ships for decades. They eventually expanded and opened more stores, including one in New York City.
No history of the Jewish experience on this island would be complete without the history of this landmark store.
