Marvin Ostroff

Marvin W. Ostroff, 90, of Sarasota, Fla., died Jan. 27, 2018. Born in New York City, he lived in Newark and Linden, where he raised his family, before moving to Sarasota in 1993. 

Mr. Ostroff was a certified public accountant licensed in New Jersey, New York, and Florida. He served as a name partner in several accounting firms in New Jersey. He served as an accounting instructor at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, for several years.

He graduated from Central High School in Newark. He received a bachelor’s degree and master of business administration from New York University. He took additional accounting courses to maintain his license in all three states.

He served in the U.S. Army as an auditor shortly after World War II and during the Korean War. 

He was a founding member of Temple Mekor Chayim-Suburban Jewish Center in Linden, now Temple Beth-El Mekor Chayim of Cranford, serving as president and as an officer for many years. In Sarasota, he served as a board member of Temple Beth Sholom for many years.

Predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Muriel, in 2009, he is survived by his daughter, Susan Keller of North Brunswick; his son, Ron of Edison; two grandsons; his companion, Susan Schaen; and his caregiver, Rosa Williams.
