In Israel, birds’ autumn migration is nearly over.

About 20,300 cranes were sighted at  Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael–Jewish National Fund’s Hula Lake Park.

Bird migration is guided by changes in daylight hours. As daylight shortens, it signals to birds that it is time to prepare for winter. Hula Lake — in Hebrew, Agamon Hula — is a vital stopover and wintering site where many bird species, including tens of thousands of cranes, can rest until they leave again when spring comes. In fact, it’s considered one of the top birding sites in the world.
