NJJN is right
I am disappointed to read in your editorial “Finding our center” (Jan. 12) that some feel NJJN “leans too far to the left” and that readers criticized the endorsement of the Democratic presidential nominee. As stated in NJJN, the choice was not about politics, but about “character, competence, and compassion.” Congratulations for expressing those sentiments. Having lost the fight, we will now suffer the consequences.
Regarding complaints about the number of stories published on Muslim-Jewish relations, Muslims are our neighbors and we need to befriend them as we do others. The Friday night of Martin Luther King weekend Monmouth Reform Temple in Tinton Falls hosted Pastor Terrence Porter of Pilgrim Baptist Church in Red Bank and M. Ali Chaudry of the Islamic Society. Chaudry challenged us to speak out against bigotry and hate, and to sign on to the movement promoting peaceful relations among diverse groups.
I feel honored to have met Mr. Chaudry and congratulated him on winning approval to build a mosque in Basking Ridge, which will join other houses of worship in the town, including Chabad of Greater Somerset County, Congregation B’nai Israel, and several churches.
