Robert Hordon

Robert M. Hordon, 81, of Kendall Park died May 4, 2018. He was born in Brooklyn. 

Mr. Hordon was a professor of physical geography at Rutgers University for 42 years. He was also a water resources consultant and served as president of the New Jersey section of the American Water Resources Association, from which he received the Peter Homack award for his contributions toward a multi-disciplinary understanding and management of the state’s water resources. 

He served as a reviewer of geography and water resources textbooks for several publishers. He also served on the Environmental Protection Agency Star Fellow Award Committee, helping to select winning candidates from across the country. He attended international geographical and geophysical conferences in many parts of the world.

He graduated from Brooklyn College with a B.A. in economic geography. He received his M.A. and Ph.D. in geography from Columbia University.

He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1962. 

He was a longtime member of Congregation B’nai Tikvah in North Brunswick. 

He is survived by his wife, Sheila (Feldman); two sons, Laurence and Bruce; his brother, Harris; and two grandsons. 

Arrangements were handled by Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, New Brunswick.
