Rona Greenberg

Rona Norma Roth Greenberg, 69, of Woodland Park died Nov. 6, 2017. Born in Jersey City, she was raised in Springfield and later resided in Springfield and South Brunswick. 

Mrs. Greenberg was a speech pathologist in the Scotch Plains-Fanwood school system for more than 20 years. After retiring, she became the co-leader of the Northern New Jersey FORCE Peer Support Group (Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered) and a patient advocate.

She was a graduate of Jonathan Dayton High School in Springfield and Douglass College, Rutgers University, New Brunswick. She earned a master’s degree in speech pathology from Northeastern University, Boston. She also received a Certificate of Clinical Competence from American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

She was active in the Jewish community all her life, serving as a leader at Temple Sha’arey Shalom, Springfield, and volunteering her time at both Anshe Emeth Memorial Temple, New Brunswick, and Temple Ner Tamid, Bloomfield.

Predeceased by her second husband, Mel Greenberg, she is survived by two daughters, Jessica (Jason) Demcsak and Amanda (Richard) Hannum; three sisters, Cheryl Ross, Bobbie D’Angelo, and Lois Carroll; three grandchildren; her stepmother, Elaine Roth; a stepbrother, Burt Kessler; and three stepchildren, Sierra (Dan) Pung, Seth (Cassie) Greenberg, and Shea (Katy) Greenberg, and their children.

Services were held Nov. 9 with arrangements by J.L. Apter Memorial Chapels of Cedar Grove. Memorial contributions may be made to FORCE (facingourrisk.org) or Let’s Win PC (letswinpc.org).
