Samuel Stein

Samuel Stein, 89, of Livingston died June 6, 2015. Born and raised in Passaic, he resided in Livingston for almost 60 years.

Mr. Stein was an executive with ResistoFlex, a manufacturing company specializing in jet engine parts, for 33 years, retiring in 1988.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Syracuse University, where he was a winning member of the track team running the 100-yard dash. He also helped found the Syracuse chapter of Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity. He received a master of public administration from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

He enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and served as a Signalman First Class on the USS Thomas J. Gary (DE 326) doing convoy duty in the Pacific. The Commander of the 7th Fleet praised the Gary for its role at the end of the war in liberating British prisoners held on Formosa.

He played golf as a member of Fairmount Country Club in Chatham.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Myra (Rothenberg); his daughter, Nancy (Ken) Blankstein; his son, Robert (Trisha); and three grandchildren.

Services were held June 9 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
