Scotch Plains synagogue hosts interfaith Thanksgiving service
Congregation Beth Israel will host the Scotch Plains/Fanwood community’s annual interfaith Thanksgiving gratitude service on November 25, at 7 p.m. The service, free and open to the community, also will be livestreamed.
The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Ministerium, which is comprised of local faith leaders, town mayors, the Scotch Plains-Fanwood school superintendent, and the heads of several non-profit organizations, sponsors the service. The houses of worship in Scotch Plains-Fanwood take turns hosting the program, which is held on the Monday before Thanksgiving.
“We are honored to host this year’s community service,” Rabbi Howard Tilman of Congregation Beth Israel said. “This service always provides a wonderful opportunity for us to gather together and give thanks for all that unites us. In particularly divisive times, it’s that much more important for communities to come together and express our gratitude.”
CBI’s Cantor Jacob Greenberg and Cantor Emeritus Matt Axelrod will conduct the Interfaith Community Choir, comprised of members of many synagogues and churches throughout Scotch Plains and Fanwood. For information, call the synagogue office at (908) 889-1830 or go to cbinj.org.
