Sheldon Fox
Dr. Sheldon Fox, 92, of Hillside died March 29, 2012. He was born in Brooklyn and later moved to Elizabeth.
After serving as an attending physician at Memorial Sloan Kettering Institute from 1951 to 1954, Dr. Fox settled in Elizabeth, initially joining the Wuester Tumor Clinic, where he operated the first Cobalt Super-Voltage Radiotherapy equipment in the state. He was the director of radiology at Alexian Brothers Hospital in Elizabeth from 1960 to 1983, introducing angiography, nuclear medicine, ultrasonography, and computed tomography. He also maintained an association with the Department of Pediatrics and Radiology at NYU Bellevue as an assistant clinical visiting professor of radiology.
He received his BA in 1938 and his MD in 1942 from Johns Hopkins University, with internships and fellowships at Yale, Duke, and Vanderbilt universities, followed by advanced training in radiology at NYU Bellevue, Columbia Presbyterian, Babies Hospital, and Oak Ridge Institute of Nuclear Studies. He received board certification from the American Board of Radiology in 1950 and from the American Board of Nuclear Medicine in 1976.
He served as captain in the United States Army Medical Corps during World War II.
He was active in support of his wife’s many community activities in Elizabeth and Hillside.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Anitta Boyko Fox; two daughters, Serena Joan Fox of Washington, DC, and Judith Carol Fox of New York City; his son, Daniel Boyko Fox of Denver; and two grandchildren.
